This video of the flight of the Solar Impulse is mesmerizingly beautiful.
You can watch the first night flight of the Solar Impulse live here. With its first night flight behind it, the Solar Impulse will soon attempt to be the first plane to fly around the world on solar power.
I suppose I’m captivated by this first overnight flight because later this week I’ll be heading out on my own endurance flight…a trip from the Seattle area to the Dayton, Ohio area in a little 2-seater plane. I intend to do the trip in 3 days, with an additional 3/4 of a day spent visiting my father near Chicago. The trip will take about 18 hours of actual flying. But because I cannot refuel from the sun, I’ll have to stop every two and a half hours to stuff more fossil-based fuel into the tanks.
