Perhaps call ‘em “Nutters?”
The term seems apt for the apparent majority of Republicans who believe that ACORN stole the 2008 election for Barack Obama.
Seriously. The original poll results are here:
Q5 Do you think that Barack Obama legitimately won the Presidential election last year, or do you think that ACORN stole it for him? If you think he won the election legitimately, press 1. If you think ACORN stole it for him, press 2. If you’re not sure, press 3.
Legitimately Won Election……………………. 62%
ACORN Stole It………………………………………. 26%
Not Sure…………………………………………………. 12%
This is what happens when the results are broken down by party:

As stunning as this result is, I suspect there is some heterogeneity in that 52%.
First, some fraction of Republicans probably really believe in some “vast left wing conspiracy†that keeps them from winning elections. These individuals are truly out of touch with reality. Let’s call the the True Nutters.
Second, some of the 52% know damn well that Obama won handily. Yet, they are also pissed off at ACORN because Glenn Beck keeps telling them that they should be angry with ACORN. So, given a random opportunity to smear ACORN, they’re all over it. These individuals are simply being dishonest. They are the Pseduo-Nutters.
Together—with loons and the liars—you have the majority of self-identified Republicans: The Nutters.

I must be a victim of the real liberal media because I haven’t heard anything conspiratorial (wrt elections) about ACORN since McCain/Palin’s hate-up town hall events in 2008.
Do these numbers mean that 1 out of 4 people (including 18% of independents and 9% of Democrats) believes that lil’ ol’ ACORN stole the 2008 election? Isn’t that kind of disturbing?
