The Sunday Morning Ick Factor
There are a lot of cringy moments on the Sunday talking head shows. But almost nothing is so cringe-inducing as Wolf Blitzer with a panel consisting of Democratic strategist James Carville and Republican strategist Mary Matalin engaging in a debate. You see, the two are not only professional rivals, but they are husband and wife. It adds a certain voyeuristic intrigue to the whole thing, somewhat akin to gawking at a a roadside accident as the police directs you around the ambulance that’s being loaded.
In this case, the debate is about recent reports that Cheney directed the CIA to hide intelligence programs from Congress. Matalin is trying to claim that this is simply the Obama administration’s way of distracting the country. Carville, for some reason far less sarcastic than usual, points out that this is not what Obama wants. Obama has, from day one, said that he wants to look forward, not to the past. In fact, it’s pretty clear that Attorney General Eric Holder is doing this without Obama’s blessings.
By the end of the segment, Matalin and Carville are talking past each other. Very strange and icky.
Speaking of Cheney…I haven’t heard anything from the Dark Lord lately. It’s making me nervous.
