Monday’s Polls

There were a few new state head-to-head polls today:

The Granite State poll in New Hampshire comes on the heels of a Rasmussen poll in the Granite state (the Rasmussen poll is slightly newer, however). As in the Rasmussen poll, Sen. John McCain leads both of his potential Democratic challengers. McCain leads Sen. Hillary Clinton 47% to 44%, perfectly matching the Rasmussen poll. McCain also leads Sen. Barack Obama 49% to 43%, doubling the spread of the Rasmussen poll (47% to 44%).

North Carolina seems to prefer McCain. McCain leads Clinton 51% to 39%, a result that is perfectly consistent with recent polls in the state. McCain also leads Obama 50% to 41%. An early-April Rasmussen poll had the candidates tied at 47% each. And a nearly simultaneous early-April Civitas poll had McCain up, 48% to 39%

Texas is widely considered a “red” state, but the head-to-head results are surprisingly close. McCain leads Clinton 49% to 43%. This result is almost identical to the two most recent polls— Survey USA polls in late February. McCain leads Obama 48% to 43%. In late February, SurveyUSA gave McCain a 1% lead (47% to 46%) in one poll and an 8% lead (49% to 41%) a few days earlier.

I’ll post new analyses incorporating these polls a little later this evening.
