On the Phone with Jay Inslee

So tonight I was sitting at my computer working away and the phone rings. It turns out it was an unsolicited call from Rep. Jay Inslee’s (WA-01) office inviting me to joint a conference call. Cool. I had no idea that this kind of thing was going on (I assume I was randomly selected as a constituent in the district).

One could punch 0 to ask a question, but I just listened. There were lots of great questions with one recurrent theme: people seem angry with the Bush administration about everything! Rep. Inslee was, as usual, informed and articulate in his responses.

What a great way to communicate with constituents!

You think? It would have been better if he’d let people know in advance and let people call in.

Yeah…I think random calls is better for Inslee, but not so good for us bloggers (who would chose to participate if possible).

This is to say, people motivated to initiate participation in such calls are highly selected, and don’t reflect the district in general.

There is almost certainly a roll for both modes (random calls and scheduled calls with activists).
