2-1-1 Service in King County

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

And, speaking of services….
The Seattle PI reports that, as of last Wednesday, King County has 2-1-1 phone service implemented. Apparently, there are some limitations for now, like limited hours (from 8 am to 8 pm).
What is 2-1-1 service? According to 211.org:

2-1-1 is an easy to remember telephone number that, where available, connects [...]

Airport Security Wait Times

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

I just stumbled across this nifty service provided by the Transportation Security Administration. It is searchable information on security checkpoint wait times, based on past information.
Here is how you use it. If you want to know what kind of delay to expect going through airport security on a particular [...]

Grassroots Platform

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Have you heard the news about the 43rd Legislative District Democrats? They are experimenting with new grassroots approaches to developing a state party platform. N in Seattle, writing at Washblog, says that the Democrats

…will hold a series of three open meetings, each devoted to developing amendments within a specified subset of the [...]

Destroyer Dick!

Friday, February 24th, 2006

You knew it was coming. Now, Mark Fiore has unleashed his latest animated editorial: Destroyer Dick!.

Destroyer Dick takes up a new role as the gun safety mascott for the NRA.
Oh…and, the title is completely unrelated to my previous post.

Severed Penis Controversy Boils Over

Friday, February 24th, 2006

There are so many important topics to blog on—if only I had a little more time! But, I couldn’t resist passing on this story from McKeesport, Pennsylvania:

Police had been investigating a report that a customer handed a clerk a severed penis to heat up in the store’s microwave.
Investigators have since learned that it [...]

Podcasting Liberally. Episode III

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

That’s right! Episode III of Podcasting Liberally is now available on-line!
Once again, I was part of a panel of liberals (who all happened to be bloggers) for an hour of fun political conversation. This week, our regular host, Goldy, couldn’t join us. But, Belltowner from Pike Place Politics did a great [...]

It is Tuesday! That means there will be a meeting of the Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally.
We will meet at 8:00 pm at the Montlake Ale House at 2307 24th Avenue E. I’ll probably show up a little early and have some dinner (the Montlake Ale House has an excellent [...]

For President’s Day 2006

Monday, February 20th, 2006

Today is President’s Day. It is a day when we can contemplate the history of our country and examine the role that past Presidents have played in shaping and preserving our democracy. We can appreciate the role Presidents have played in steering our country towards realizing the ideals of true equality, justice, and [...]

Gregoire’s Approval Up

Friday, February 17th, 2006

It has taken a year following the very successful GOP smear-campaign-disguised-as-an-election-contest, but Gregoire’s approval has now gone two months in a row in something of a “normal” range, and greater than or equal to her disapproval rate.
Survey USA has released their latest Governor’s Poll. Gregoire ranks 34 in the nation, [...]

Mark Fiore has done it again…It is a legal advertisement from Gonzales, Watchu, and Howe…’cause sometimes you need a good lawyer.

Best News of the Week!

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

This headline wins my vote for best of the week…

The Vice President Shoots, Sleeps, and Leaves

by Margaret Carlson.
The title is obviously a twist on Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss. (Kathy occasionally taunts me for “reading punctuation books,” but, in fact, she has read Truss’ book and I have [...]

Veep Humor

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

The Seattle Times has an article about Cheney jokes and humor surrounding the Vice President of the United States shooting his friend.

“It’s funny even if you like Cheney,” Mintz said. “But it’s funnier if you don’t.”

I guess, after all, Cheney really is a uniter, not a divider.

When Veeps Go Wrong

Monday, February 13th, 2006

Man, oh, man. I don’t understand how this happened.
Maybe Dick was taking some kind of personal lead in tort reform?
Maybe Dick got a little confused and though he was in the middle of the Administration’s “manhunt” for terrorists?
Perhaps the Dickster was…umm…a little tipsy?
Or just maybe Dick is just a freaking Mr. McGoo who happens [...]

Cantwell Still Dominates McGavick

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

The title may provoke something of an S&M image, but all it means is that McGavick’s poll numbers still stink. And, Cantwell’s remain solid.
According to today’s Rasmussen Reports:

Washington Senator Maria Cantwell (D) and her challenger Mike McGavick (R) can both find some good news in the latest Rasmussen Reports election poll.
For Cantwell, the good [...]
